Rebecca Mabanglo-Mayor - Dancing Between Bamboo Poles

Like the traditional Tinikling dancers of the Philippines, whose feet flash between poles drumming against the ground, the poems and essays of Dancing Between Bamboo Poles evoke the agility needed to move between history and personal experience, to negotiate conflicting cultural expectations, and to trace the fluid nature of identity as it shifts from role to role.

Rebecca will be joined by violinist Swil Kanim.

Rebecca Mabanglo-Mayor’s non-fiction, poetry, and short fiction in several journals and anthologies. Her poetry chapbook Pause Mid-Flight was released in 2010. She is also the co-editor of True Stories: The Narrative Project Vol. 1. She has been performing as a storyteller with the since 2006 and specializes in stories based on Filipino folktales and Filipino-American history.
