Papeachu Press Book Launch—'From the Waist Down: the Body in Healthcare'

An evening of poetry and essays recounting true experiences with our healthcare system

 

Third Place Books invites you to our Seward Park store for an evening celebrating local publisher Papeachu Press and the launch of their collection From the Waist Down: the Body in Healthcare. 

The evening will feature readings from contributors including Birch Rosen, Michele Bombardier, Heidi Seaborn, Susan Landgraf, Deborah Bacharach, Alli Parrett, Becka Olson, Rebecca Shapiro, Rebecca Huvard, Angela Sucich, and Andrea Izykowski-Paz. This event is free and open to the public. Registration is required in advance. Please note: masks are required for this event.

Copies of From the Waist Down will be available for purchase at the store. This event will include a public signing and time for audience Q&A. Sustain our author series by purchasing a copy of the featured book!

About From the Waist Down. . .

From the Waist Down: the Body in Healthcare is a collection of voices telling us how they have been affected by the US medical system. Told either through poetry or essay, these stories are all real and are all extremely powerful. 

10% of this book goes towards Jane's Due Process, an organization assisting teens in Texas navigate access to abortion, birth control, and mental healthcare. 

 


Birch Rosen (they/them) lives in the Seattle area, on the unceded land of Coast Salish peoples. Their work has appeared in Michigan Quarterly Review, just femme & dandy, and Bellevue Literary Review. Their zines include Boobless, T&A (Transitioning & Attractiveness), and the Trans Restroom Rants series.

Michele Bombardier (she/her) the author of What We Do, a Washington Book Award finalist. Her work has appeared in JAMA, Alaska Quarterly Review, Atlanta Review and many others. She earned her MFA at Pacific University, is a Hedgebrook and Mineral School fellow, and is the founder of Fishplate Poetry, offering workshops and retreats while raising money for medical care for refugees.
