From award-winning author CS Claus comes a tragic tale based on the true story straight out of ancient China: Surrounded by Chu Songs (愷충뇝멱). The novel tells the tale of Miaoyi YŬ, who starts out as a poor servant girl in the house of the local warlord, but who rises to become a warrior, philosopher, champion of the people...and the only hope for China.

Always demanding to live life on her own terms, Miaoyi YŬ grows up alongside Xiang Ji as they learn to love each other deeply. They become inseparable as they fight for justice, even through the four long years of the Han-Chu War (206-202 BCE). But when their childhood friend, Liu Bang, threatens their lives, YŬ will have to choose between saving herself, or saving all of China.

Reading along is Ling Jun, who slowly comes to realize how her fate is tied with YŬ's, and the powerful and mysterious role she herself has to play.

CS Claus was born in Washington and, after living for the last 25 years in NYC, came home to Edmonds to write his first novel. A graduate of Dartmouth college and penniless world traveler, Cory became an award-winning writer in 2019 for his short story, The Bay-Facing Window. He is currently working on a collection of short stories for 2020, and a follow-up novel for 2021.
