RAVENNA - Book Club - The Plague and I

November 28, 2018 - 7:00pm

Ravenna

"Getting tuberculosis in the middle of your life is like starting downtown to do a lot of urgent errands and being hit by a bus. When you regain consciousness you remember nothing about the urgent errands. You can't even remember where you were going."

Thus begins Betty MacDonald's memoir of her year in a sanatorium just outside Seattle battling the "White Plague." MacDonald uses her offbeat humor to make the most of her time in the TB sanatorium--making all of us laugh in the process.

Poetry Reading with Michele Bombardier and Tara Hardy

November 29, 2018 - 7:00pm

Seward Park

Join us on Thursday, November 29 for a night of poetry with Michele Bombardier, author of What We Do, and Tara Hardy, author of My, My, My, My, My.

At its center, What We Do is about survival, how quickly things can fall apart, and what it means to live in the aftermath of loss. Resilient and brave, the sonnet cycle in this collection does what poetry is meant to do, shake us into awareness of ourselves and of those around us, whether family or stranger, the rhythms and forms working against grief and pain.
