Employment

General Bookseller

Third Place Books always accepts applications for General Booksellers and will hold them on file until a position becomes available.

Third Place Books looks for applicants with a passion for independent bookselling and an active desire to learn about the book business. Those with previous bookstore or library experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Competitive benefits include health insurance, a 401k plan, free bus pass, paid vacation and sick time, and a generous employee discount. Candidates are expected to make a minimum one year commitment to employment.

Third Place Books is committed to building and valuing a diverse group of booksellers that represents the community we serve. We are a company that values inclusiveness and embraces the diversity of its people, such as differences in cultural backgrounds, race, ethnicity, disability, age, gender identity, or sexual orientation.

Frontline booksellers are the first point of contact for customers and therefore are expected to create a friendly, professional, and helpful environment on the store floor. You should feel comfortable talking about and handselling a range of books. Primary responsibilities can include, but are not limited to, customer service, point-of-sale transactions, merchandising and maintaining inventory, used book buying, maintaining the store environment, and assisting in marketing and promotion. Retail schedules can include morning, evening, and weekend shifts. There is a company-wide vacation blackout between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.

When a job opening occurs at any of our locations, we will post it to Craigslist.
