Nine Books for a Cozy Halloween

Halloween is my favorite holiday, and as much as I love to be terrified, even I have to admit there’s nothing quite like cuddling up to enjoy something autumnal, a little spooky, and unlikely to give me nightmares. So if you’re looking for a cozy Halloween, with some gentle spooks, and a lot of fun, here are some books for you!

Spooky Sapphic YA Books

Spooky Sapphic YA Books

It’s that time of year again, the one where those of us who delight in the macabre can finally indulge in pumpkin-y beverages and pay to frighten ourselves at horror movies, corn mazes, and haunted houses as the leaves turn color outside. If you’re anything like me, there’s no better way to spend an evening than plugging in those flickering orange Halloween decorations, cuddling up with a mug of hot apple cider, and cracking open a good, eerie read. To help you get into the seasonal mood, here’s a carefully curated list of spooky Sapphic young adult book recommendations.

Warm & Cozy Halloween Reads

If you like spending October watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Hocus Pocus, and Halloweentown - this list is for you. I love all the nostalgic, Halloween vibes with minimal spooks. These books feature all sorts of "monsters" from cute ghosts to angsty vampires to snarky witches. I hope you're able to find some joy and comfort in these autumnal and atmospheric books this spooky season. I also highly recommend watching ParaNorman, Scooby Doo, Vampire Diaries, and Teen Wolf. Happy Halloween!

Under the Surface

“[Horror fiction] shows us that the control we believe we have is purely illusory, and that every moment we teeter on chaos and oblivion.”

― Clive Barker
