Listen to Black People

In the last week we’ve seen an explosion of orders for books about race and activism. We’re selling out of books by Black authors -- and so are our distributors. Printers are rushing reprints, and we’ll get these books into your hands as quickly as we can, but we want to do everything we can to make sure you have access to information as quickly as possible.

To that end we thought we’d remind you that if you like audiobooks, you can download these books from Libro.fm -- while still supporting the local indie of your choice -- and start listening right now.

Quick Audiobooks to Listen to While Crafting

Hello fellow crafters! I think it's fair to say we've all had a bit more time to engage in our indoor hobbies these days, which means many of us have been crafting more than usual! And whether you're knitting, or embroidering, or maybe sewing masks, as several of our Third Place Booksellers have been these past few months, there's nothing better than crafting with the company of a great audiobook.

So here’s a list of quick, engaging reads that you can download off libro.fm right now, no leaving your house necessary.

May Flowers

Well, we made it through winter, Pacific NW friends. It isn't the Spring we were expecting, but nevertheless, May is here!  Hopefully everyone has been able to enjoy the changing weather as much as possible. If you’ve been stuck indoors more than you prefer to be this Spring, here are some unrelated books with flowers on the cover to bring the Spring inside.

The Perfect Graduation Gift

It’s going to be a strange graduation season folks, which is all the more reason to celebrate the graduates in our lives. There may be no ceremonies, but we should still honor this accomplishment -- in a safe way. And as far as graduation gifts go, books are an evergreen idea.

Comforting Reads

The doctor is in!

We all have that book we turn to when we need a break from the stressors of the real world. The real world is offering an abundance of stressors lately, so I thought I'd compile a list of books that offer some respite from the uncertainty, fear, and boredom we're all dealing with right now. Most likely you've read a lot of the books on this list; these are old favorites, books that radiate warmth and comfort to help us get through this pandemic together -- from a safe distance.

Books We Can't Wait to Start Selling

There are many things to love about being a bookseller, but my favorite double edged sword is that we get to read so many amazing books before they are officially released in stores. Double edged only because we read books we love and then we have to WAIT, sometimes MONTHS before we get to shove them breathlessly into your hands.

There’s been a lot of buzz around the bookstore lately because of all the wonderful advance reading copies we’re getting through, and because the suspense is killing us, this is what we can’t wait to recommend in the coming months:

Bookselling as a Latina

We had an author event scheduled on February 1 at our Ravenna store with Jeanine Cummins for her new book, American Dirt. I planned on attending, not as an employee of Third Place Books but as someone interested in what the author had to say. I also had a question.

Here is what I would have asked Jeanine Cummins at the event:
