Contrary to conventional wisdom, Dr. Michael Bennett (a psychiatrist with over 30 years of private practice) warns readers that spending too much time with our feelings can be dangerous for our health. He suggests, instead, that we come to terms with how little control we often have over the things that make us feel bad. Some aspects of our mental health may not improve no matter what we do. It's a hard truth, but we are not to blame for what we cannot control. And we are not failures because the latest fade in self-help doesn't fix us. We don't give up, of course. But we recognize our limitations and do the best we can with what we have. Hands down the best self-help book I have ever read.
