Wendy

Wendy is the Events Manager for the store. When she's not pursuing authors to fill our busy schedule, she is riding her electric bike (it's a cruiser!) to work and around town. If you are interested in weight lifting she would love to talk to to you about proper form...all day long.  She has also has become a paleo/primal diet fanatic.  She reads historical fiction (with a focus on royalty), Cultural Revolution memoirs, Daniil Kharms and other absurdists and always makes room for dystopian fiction on her nightstand. She was briefly obsessed with religious polygamy.

I looked at this cover for years, always on my way down the aisle towards the restroom. Each time I saw it, I vowed to read it... 7 years later I did. It is a fun jaunt through a magical world filled with fairies, shapeshifters, and the humans that are attuned to them and it has a great cover!

I never pictured myself falling in love with a group of French revolutionaries that have been dead for about 200 years, but I did. Hilary Mantel brings that period of French History and the men involved to life. Danton earned a particularly special place in my heart. What a life!

I am embarrassed to say that I had never heard of Harry Mulisch before he recently passed away. I chose to read one of his novels as a memorial for him. The Assault grabs your heart in a fist like grip and doesn't let go. It was a perfect introduction to a fantastic writer.

Having not read any Douglas Coupland prior and to be perfectly honest starting this with preconceived notions of what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised to find myself incredibly moved by this novel. The last few pages express loss and regret in a way that stunned me. I can pick up this novel at any time, read the last 4 pages and immediately start crying.

From a near psychotic 8-yr old to an ex-Iraqi soldier searching for redemption from the soldier he shot in the first Gulf War - with a sexy grandma and a disabled stripper in the middle. They form a band and rock it like Chuck Norris on the tilt-a-whirl.

There are many, many, many books written about Elizabeth I, and Alison Weir's is the best. She brings her sharp skills and perspective to the amazing story of a "bastard" child born to a soon-to-be beheaded queen that survives against all odds and becomes one of the most powerful rulers in all Europe. It's ironic that as Henry VIII disposed of wives left & right in his pursuit for a male heir, Elizabeth was there all along. I like to think of it as Anne Bolyen's revenge.

I listen to quite a bit of audio, with a commute of up to an hour, and this novel was one of the best audio books I have listened to. The suspense & intrigue had me gripping my steering wheel all the way to work. It was so good, that I ended up bouncing back & forth between the actual book & audio version, because I couldn't wait.

I LOVE everything miniature. I have an actual physical reaction that causes me to break out in a goofy smile, or worse - giggles. This is just the book to bring that out in me. I could look at it for hours - and I have.
It's so clever and adorable that you can give this to almost anyone for almost any occasion.

A wonderful novel - written in '74 it has that classic scifi movie feel to it. You can almost see Charlton Heston. You are kept in the dark as much as the main character and the world slowly unfolds for you as he discovers the secrets of the city! A great read.
